2016 STARSKATE PROVINCIALS RESULTS

Yarmouth Skating Club sent 16 skaters to the Skate Nova Scotia STARSkate Championships held in Amherst this weekend.
This is the largest number of skaters we have sent in over 15 years!
This is a Provincial Championship but we also had 4 skaters competing in events which were qualifiers for the Atlantic Skating Championship which will be held in East Hants on April 8th to 10th
We had 3 qualify for Atlantics

We are going to take a group photo of the STARSkaters who are competing in Amherst at Provincials.We are going to take the group picture on Tuesday March 1st at 620pm. We are asking all skaters to wear their dresses and bring whatever ribbons and/or medals they receive from the weekend.
Also Ken Chetwynd is going to be at the rink that day at 630pm to take individual pictures. This is similar to last year in that there is a $20 sitting fee which needs to be payed to Ken or Rosie that night This is optional so do not feel that you need to have these done. Ken posts these pictures to his website http://kenslens.ca/figureskating where you will have the option of purchasing the digital copies of pictures you want and/or having Ken create a poster for you. They are $25 and again are optional and you do not need to purchase one.

For anyone who has friends and family that would love to watch their skaters compete in Amherst this weekend but are unable to make it there Bruce Dempsey is providing a LiveStream Video feed of the event for a small fee (I believe for $10 you can watch the whole day of competition)

The quality of the feed will depend on the WiFi in the arena (some are better than others).
The times and skaters are listed below. Skating Competitions can run up to 30 minutes ahead of schedule or any amount of time behind schedule. Please keep this in mind when tuning in on the Live Stream

We have been contacted by Greg Guy of CBC again and will have 2 more of our CANSkaters featured on their Young Athlete of the Day segment this week. Mylan d'Entremont will be featured on Monday Feb 8th and Nolan d'Eon will be featured on Thursday Feb 11th. Congratulations to Mylan and Nolan! And thank you CBC for thinking of us!!
KYLIE AND SHAYLEIGH COMPETE AT ROBERT MCCALL COMPETITION THIS WEEKEND

YSC had 2 Skaters competing at the Robert McCall Memorial Competition this weekend in Dartmouth. Kylie Landry placed 2nd in the Gold Ladies Interpretive and 4th in the Gold Ladies Freeskate. Shayleigh Doucet placed 5th in Juvenile Ladies Under 12. The Rob McCall is one of the biggest competitions of the year with over 300 skaters from across the three Maritime provinces. Congratulations Skaters!!

CANSkaters of the Month
Amara Deveau is 4 years old. She loves everything about CANSkate from the Fast Tracks to the Goodbye song. When she is not skating she loves Yoshi and she loves to colour! Congratulations Amara!
Adeshvar Chahal is 13 years old and he loves to work on Bubbles (2 foot sculling) when he is at CANSkate. When he is not skating he loves to ride his bike. In school his favorite subject is science! Congratulations Adeshvar!

SPIRIT Skater of the Month
Jessica Zhu is 9 years old. She has been a STARSkater for a few years and will be competing at the 2016 STARSkate Championships in Amherst on Feb 26-28th. She has also been volunteering her time to be a Helper on CANSkate sessions and is excellent in helping with the warm up and cool down songs Congratulations Jessica!
Program Assistant of the Month
Sharlie Pinksen is 12 years old and has been a Program Assistant with
YSC for 2 years. She is very helpful in setting up the circuits!
