Yarmouth Skating Club is very Proud to announce the continuation of CanSkate in Clare and also so excited to introduce CanPowerskate
Last year Vanessa Pulley (student at Université Sainte-Anne, Past Skater and NCCP level 1 Professional Skating Coach) asked to start a CanSkate program in the Clare area. She wanted to provide a learn to skate program closer to the people in the Clare Municipality and also with the option of being provided in the french language.
Due to Vanessa's excellent coaching, enthuiasm and organization the first season of Canskate in Clare was an overwhelming success!!!
She is also a recreation hockey player and heard people say that they would be interested in putting their children in Powerskating. So this past Spring Vanessa also took her CanPowerSkate courses. Now this year in addition to offering CanSkate she is also very excited to offer CanPowerSkate.

Information on the Skate Canada Programs offered in Clare:
CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. The coach to student ratio is a maximum of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating Programs, and is presented by BMO Financial Group, reflecting their commitment to grassroots development.
CanPowerSkate

CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.
Why are the Clare Skating Programs linking to Yarmouth Skating Club???
Starting a skating Club is a long and involved process. You have to have a volunteer Executive, a constitution,by-laws,set up a bank account and have a Treasurer to manage it. You have to have audits done on your books, order supplies from Skate Canada and on and on.Skate Nova Scotia was asked what would be the best and easiest way to bring this program to Clare. Skate NS recommended that Yarmouth Skating Club be the "parent" Club and Clare be a "satellite" club of Yarmouth. This way all the business,by laws and goverence would be taken care of by YSC and Clare would be able to begin their programs. The group of parent volunteers in Yarmouth make sure all the work is done behind the scene so Vanessa can concentrate on running the excellent programs that you see at the Université Sainte-Anne Arena.
